CCNA Security

CCNA Security equips you with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for entry-level security specialist careers. This course is a hands-on, career-oriented e-learning solution that emphasizes practical experience. CCNA Security is a blended curriculum with both online and classroom learning. This is a good course to take after Security+ for people who want more in-depth, hands-on network security training.    

This course aims to develop an in-depth understanding of network security principles as well as mastery of the tools and configurations available. The following tools are covered:

  • Protocol sniffers/analyzers
  • TCP/IP and common desktop utilities
  • Cisco IOS software
  • Cisco VPN client
  • Packet Tracer (PT)
  • Web-based resources


The predominant lab types are procedural, skills integration challenges, troubleshooting, and model building. Most chapters include Packet Tracer-based skills integration challenges that are cumulative throughout the course, allowing for an exam-like culminating activity at the end of the course.

All hands-on labs in the course are completed on actual physical equipment or in conjunction with the NDG NETLAB solution and include activities that emphasize networking implementation.

Required Prep: Completion of CCNA 1 through 4 OR CCNA certification OR equivalent knowledge and experience. Must have access to a computer with Windows as well as Internet access outside of class to complete assignments.

CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) Certification Preparation

About the CISSP Examination

The CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) exam is a six-hour, monitored paper-based exam covering 10 domains of information system security knowledge, each representing a specific area of expertise. The CISSP examination consists of 250 multiple choice questions covering topics such as Access Control Systems, Cryptography, and Security Management Practices, and is administered by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium or (ISC)2. (ISC)2 promotes the CISSP exam as an aid to evaluating personnel performing information security functions. Required Prep: You must have a minimum of five years of direct full-time security work experience in two or more of the 10 domains of the information systems security CBK®. If certain circumstances apply with appropriate documentation, candidates are eligible to waive one year of professional experience.

Security+

The CompTIA® Security+™ certification exam is a vendor neutral world-wide standard for foundation-level security practitioners. Exam objectives were developed with input from industry, government, and academic professionals. Although available, you don’t need research to tell you the importance of IT security. Human error along with spyware, malware, e-mail attacks, viruses, worms, and wireless technology are reasons for security training and certification. 
This Security+ course is taught with a practical approach to prepare you for the certification exam and for skills required on the job. You will apply general security concepts to real world scenarios. Competencies exactly match the CompTIA® certification exam areas:

  • Network security
  • Compliance and operational security
  • Threats and vulnerabilities
  • Application, data, and host security
  • Access control and identity management
