Communication technologies have allowed workers to be more productive than ever. But our increasingly connected world is not an excuse to forget good taste or manners. Successful professionals make smart use of technology by balancing speed and efficiency with courtesy and politeness. This course will show you how to best represent yourself and your company--in person, on the phone, and via email and social media.
Since memoranda and e-mail are your most common forms of written communication with superiors, subordinates, and employees in other locations, they must effectively communicate to save time and problems. In this seminar, you will concentrate on the various uses and misuses of these forms of communication and learn how to create memos and e-mail documents that are concise, easy to read, friendly, and easy to under-stand.
Recommended Prep: Review of English grammar.
You’re a beginning or a seasoned PowerPoint presenter, but how do you know whether the points you’re trying to make are really getting across and having an impact on your audience? The hallmark of this two-session course is that you will receive constructive verbal and written feedback on your presentation in a supportive environment. As business communication transitions from the Information Age to the Conceptual Age, you will first learn the new principles of digital presentations. You will learn how to create a more effective and powerful balance between text and image that breaks through the clutter and increases the receptivity of the audience. Participants will create and give presentations based on the principles learned, and will receive individual written feedback on their talks from the instructor as well as the other participants. Note: Although the term “PowerPoint” is used in this description, you may use Keynote, Prezi, SlideRocket, and other formats for your presentation.
Interpersonal skills are critical to professional success. But with so much of business communication being conveyed through writing, how can you be sure that you are putting your best foot forward through your words as well as your actions? This course helps you realize that every message you send out is an opportunity to strengthen your professional relationships. It will show you how to turn each message into relationship-enhancing bond with customers, coworkers, and employees. Special care will be given to ensure positive outcomes for sticky situations, such as handling a customer complaint, turning criticism into constructive feedback, and giving difficult performance evaluations.
